I somehow don't think they'll have the bacon and maple ice cream item on the menu but that actually sounds really good!

I'm hungry...and gonna get some breakfast and relax with some coffee before I start working this morning. You know, I wish I had the luxury of being able to relax with coffee and breakfast while reading through the blogs I like to visit.

One day, I'll have the internet set up at home.

SJ<

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

@Ellie - I love Bacon. I love Ice Cream... just ... they don't sound "right" together. Flavors: pear ginger, vegan chocolate peanut butter, chocolate mocha, triple berry, raspberry marscapone (probably not how that's spelled), banana oreo. No chacon was available, but there was salty chocolate (didn't try it though). How does vanilla bacon sound?

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

If I do find anything like vegan ice cream I'll definately share all about my experiences.

btw..chacon sounds gross!

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

@Ellie -
Sure thing Ellie.

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

@Sarah -
Well, if you find it and try it let us know.

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

wow. But the milk and soy based (ie vegan) ice cream that he makes have pretty much the same texture. He also makes a lot of crazy flavors in each type, and they change daily. If you're brave enough to try them it's really cool (and they let you have as many little spoonfulls of the different flavors as you want, so you can try every flavor and then buy a scoop of your favorites, rather than hoping you're choosing one you like).

Randy,

I didn't try the 'Chacon,' but my sister did, and she liked it. Maybe Strawberry-Riesling sounds better? Brown bread? Oreo? Lemon? Rhubarb-Strawberry?

Oh, and I got a wordpress.com blog, and I'll unveil it soon

:::mysterious music playing:::

:)

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

@Ellie -
Well, if I ever come out that way *maybe* I will try a scoop. I don't think I could ever do tea unsweet.

When blogging I use wordpress. It's easy to follow. That said, if you were to look at my blog you wouldn't find much and I'm in the process of changing a lot of things which include re-wording the "about me" on the blog.

Perhaps I should have talked about the block of cheese made popular by New York on this colum! lol....you guy's are talking on just about every topic here and it seems that my random thoughts thrown out here would have been better. Anyhoo....

About dressing up...I think sometimes people do make too big of a deal about it. I mean, it seems like the two of you wouldn't turn your noses up at somebody attending the Oprah in their jeans. But if you're like me and you just can't afford to purchase a suit (or fancy dress---not that I would get that unction--actually I thought about wearing a dress and Lord knows that it would have to be a very very special occasion.)

The last time I wore a dress had been at my Bible College graduation cerimony which had been about 8 years ago.

People debate about dress code in the church as well.

I firmly believe that when we attend the Oprah and church we should be wearing our best. And my best is jeans and a t-shirt. At least for now it is. On my extremely low budget, low finances it's been extremely hard for me to get a new clothes. I'm well on my way! I used to wear men's clothing and used to have a guy's hair cut. Now I wear girls clothing, will wear make-up from time to time and I might wear jeans but they're girl's jeans now!

And I find trying to keep up with other women has been exhaustive as I've been on this huge learning curve. You know, it's expensive. I just bought this under-shirt. I forget the special name for it but it helpes you keep your stomach tightened so that you look better in your clothes.

And well, getting my hair cut and keeping up with hair fassion is just as exhaustive and expensive. And so, I'm all tapped out.

At the same time I've been having a lot of fun!

And I never knew that shopping could be so fun!

I come from a large family, I'm one of 6 kids. I'm the second to the youngest. My younger sister just turned 15 and I have two older sisters who turned 37, a step-sister who's 35 and then my twin brother.

Prior to the six kids it was just my dad, and I had been one of 4 kids--2 sets of twins. And getting us shopping for clothing had always been a challenge. Could you imagine running after 2 young sets of twins as a single-parent!

It's the first time I had ever heard about vegan ice cream. It makes me wonder. Does it taste like ice cream? Or does it have a slightly different taste and texture?

As far as foods and what not...I think there will always be people who like their fast food, their micro-wave dinners and such but I think it's because today our society has becomce fast paste. Everything has to be quick and easy. People have to work to keep up with what they want and the average American and Canadian spends way more money then what their budget actually allows. And as a result family begins to suffer, kids are raised in day care centers. And well, you get the picture.

Chocolate Pie...that sounds really good. When I go to Tim Hortons there will be times I get this chocolate pastry. It's my fav. I can't really afford to buy it all the time simply because I'll never lose the weight I want to if I get it all the time. Mind you, It's been quite a few months since I last had that chocolate pastry.

:)

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

It really was good, Randy. They also have more normal flavors, like Chocolate Heath Bar. And less normal flavors like Chocolate Bacon (that's part of the non-vegan line).

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

@Ellie -
OMW(ord) that sounds horrible. If I ever go to the south you can introduce me to sweet tea. And if you're ever in LA I'll take you out for vegan ice cream ;) The last time I was at the vegan ice cream shop, I had chocolate celery ice cream, yumm.

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

@Ellie -
Clothes - Keep wearing them and dress to inspire.

Blogging - Get a wordpress.com or stand alone wordpress (like mine) blog. Wordpress is truly the best... and believe me ... I have tried them all (several times.) You have a gift and it should be blogged! :).

Sweet tea - Growing up in Tennessee, sweet tea is a default (or was.) Whenever anyone ever ordered a "tea" at a restaraunt it was always iced and always sweet. My first day waiting tables on Long Island taught me that this default did not translate well into the Northeast. Their default was hot tea with sugar on the side ... if they ordered it. Sweet tea is full of sugar ... tons of sugar. Because I don't work outside nearly as often as my grandparents, I can't afford to drink it even though it is *really* good.

My grandparents, extended family, made home made everything and none of it was supposedly healthy. Yet, they were not fat by any means. I love southern food. My Aunt Sara makes the best home made banana pudding and fried okra. My Aunt Judy ... pork chops! My Great Granny would make me my own home made chocolate pie every holiday.

I am really hungry all of a sudden.

the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlausser (sp?) is really good. He makes the case that your liberal professor does in a really well articulated argument. He even says that more people around the world recognize the golden arches of McDonalds than do the Cross of Christ. That said, I just don't believe that traditional foods will ever disappear or evolve. They will ebb and flow like everything else. Humans like their sentimental foods and feasts.

Re: 165,789 Words To Go - Open Thread

@Ellie - I can't respond in full right now but I already had the expansion of the text box on my list of things to do.
