And then Obama … and then Palin … and then and then

Started by Randy · 10 months ago

What a whirlwind in the Presidential election ‘08! Obama, sorry fellow Republicans, he did great last night whether we like it or not. There were a few times the conflict between his “change” theme but still propping up liberal culture war talking points ... Continue reading »

  • Yes, it's a wonderful pick. By giving birth to a Down Syndrome baby earlier this year, it shows she walks the prolife walk. She referred to her new son as "perfect." She has my support. She has been my number one choice for the past month or so.

But get ready. The MSM is gearing up to do a hatchet job on her. Brace yourself.
  • Oh I know. They might try to build her up a little to tear her down (normal pattern) but they only have two months so they just my go for the throat right out of the gate.

I love that she is a pro-life, Big Game Hunter, Hockey Mom.

  • Yes, I appreciate with Nick her walking the walk of her pro life values. I am hopeful that as a pro life mother of a child with a disabilitiy, she will be effective in all ares of 'life', not just for the life of the unborn or disability rights in general, but also help to fight doctor assisted suicide and euthanasia lawas that are cropping up in various states. Yeah, I know/think she handled some oil crisis, too, as governor :), but these area of life are where I'm most invested.
  • Understandable Julie. I have a feeling she is going to be a fascinating person to watch and learn about.
  • I think this speaks volumes. It is one thing to speak about what you believe but to act on it really makes a statement. I am so excited about her being nominated.
  • Hi Paul! Thank you for coming by.
  • I totally came over here to see what you think of Palin. She goes to an AG church; is she a professed born-again Christian?
  • I don't know about what church she goes too but her "...servant's heart" remark on what a leader should embody tipped me off that she takes her faith seriously. I knew she was a Christian but don't remember where I learned that.

I just did a quick Google News search and the New York Times reports that she is indeed an evangelical Christian.

... The selection of Ms. Palin, an evangelical Christian, was embraced by social conservative leaders, raising the possibility that Mr. McCain might have succeeded in reinvigorating a Republican base that was not enthusiastic about his candidacy... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/30/us/politics/2...

I am glad you came by. I am inquisitive of what your opinion is now and as you learn more about her.

  • Palin is a fundamental independent Baptist. She attends a fundamental Baptist church in AK.
  • Actually, a friend of mine on facebook sent me a link to the following document but I can't get to the original one without all the facebook redirecting stuff mucking it up. So, I uploaded it to my pownce account here http://pownce.com/RThomasETC/notes/3288278/ the original document is somewhere on www.alaskaag.org

In the document it states that she attends Juneau Christian Center ( http://www.jccalaska.com ) which seems to be Pentecostal AG and not Baptist. It also states she grew up in an AG church in her hometown.
  • That's right on Randy! I have also notice that she does not parade her deeply committed beliefs in verbal dialogs, but seems to be actually living it!

Knowing her baby was Downs and embracing him instead of the liberal democrat way of abortion. It reminds me of St. Augistines' famous quote, "Preach the gospel all day long, and if necessary use words."

The more I look at this woman, the more I like here and it seems she truly is a dedicated Christian. I love it!

  • One thing I'd like to see with the Republican Party is to have more concern about Social Justice. It's for this reason I really like The Democratic Party. But I do find myself on the fence because obviously I don't agree with everything the Democratic Party stands for. But I don't agree with everything The Republican Party stands for.

Is there not a group out there who will promote Judeo-Christian morals and Social Justice? And if The Republican's are an advocate for the poor and needy and the marginalized please tell me how, where, and when.

Give me a reason to like McCain over Obama?
  • he and Palin will work to overturn Roe V. Wade and stop the wholesale slaughter of the unborn. They will do this in a number of ways but most importantly by appointing judges that will see that babies have human rights too.

And a bonus reason ... many Republicans deal with social justice issues through the church ... not the state.
  • this is so true! For me, NOW, this is first major reason to vote for McCain - JUDGES... Judges who will be constitutionally guided and not legislate from the bench. There are a possible of three new appointees! THAT'S HUGE! We need judges who up hold the law rather than making it up as they go, like the black robe gods who have us Roe V. Wade... they should instead had been servants of God, as was originally intended by our founding forefathers.

I also like McCain's policies on security and foreign relations... especially his clear comment from Saddleback, you destroy evil, you cannot negotiate with evil as Obama would suggest.

Noticed the new direction... "REFORM" was loud and clear. Reform will be the new buzz word for the McCain campaign.

This seems like an answer to prayer for me, and many other Christians who are concerned about the direction of our country. I am looking forward to, and pray for a McCain/Palin victory to the White House on November 4th!
  • Thanks for chiming in Stephen. I think you are right about the "reform" theme. McCain/Palin have clear records of bringing reform whereas Obama doesn't have a record of "change" and can barely articulate what that means in practical terms.

I still have serious issues with McCain and they don't disappear because of Palin. However, Palin on the ticket makes me want to actually help in promoting the campaign beyond simply voting.

I also have to admit I am *done* with the RNC. They played us (conservatives) and they do awful things on the state level. Hearing that Palin busted people within "our" party makes me like her even more.

I see Obama playing with the institutionalized DNC (Biden, Clintons) and not reforming the politics as usual. McCain and Palin are modeling the new and authentic paradigm rising up within the RNC and country.
  • This is exactly my feeling.
  • Lets hope they are very vocal in pointing out the filibustering that goes on.

  • I might sound nuts, but she is starting to remind me of a Republican version of Truman. I'm really excited about this pick!
  • Sorry I don't know how I missed this one. How does she remind you of Truman?
  • :::Hands on Hips::: Wow, I was wondering.

Well, she comes out of near obscurity (governor of Alaksa, Senator from Missouri). She use to have just a 'normal job,' (fisher, haberdasher). So they both were these underdog, regular person character types, rather than 'career politicians.' They both are known for fighting corruption in government and in their own party. They both seem very no-nonsense and grounded, rather than pretentious.

I don't know if that makes sense. She just sort of reminds me of Truman, and it makes me happy. :)
  • Makes perfect sense. Thank you for explaining.

You know a movie is coming at some point :).
  • Well, she compared herself to Truman in her speech, so I guess I'm not the only one who sees it :)
  • I thought of your comment when she said that. You are very smart Ellie.
  • :::Blushing::: thanks, randy.

I'm even more excited about her now. Can't wait to see what McCain says.
