ETC: Everyday Thoughts Collected: Come On Over for A Cup of Coffee Thread …

  • Randy · 1 year ago
    I always love a good cup of coffee. Thanks. Mmmmmm very tasty and warm. It's very cold here. Fancy coffee set up you have there.

    I ventured into a mall today. There were all these winter blowout sales and I found myself in stores I normally could never afford to enter. I caught myself observing the clientele. It was like a club of fashion. All these women were checking out everyone else's outfits! "Where did you get that from?" "I love your sweater, I'm going to buy one just like it." One woman approached me and asked about my scarf. I told her I found it at WalMart and what a wonderful scarf it was. Her eyes bugged out and she turned around and walked away. I confess to getting in the car and laughing hysterically. It's all so silly...and sad. It's a good thing she never asked where I got my jeans from.

    Nice coffee machine!!
  • Randy · 1 year ago
    I wish I could join you Steve. Look forward to the live updates.

    Amy ::: taking another sip O' coffee ::: Thanks, I think I have a pretty groovy coffee machine. As for Christianity without standards... can I ask ... how do you put grace and mercy into that statement?

    Could you pass the splenda?

    I spent my day running a couple of errands, I am waiting on a friend to call that I haven't heard from in a little over five years. and I am just chillaxing doing what I got to do. I will probably do some laundry later.

    I just posted a blog about the ACLU and Ziggy. :)

    Oh and it is cold down here too. Well for us it is cold.

    ::: sip :::

    scent not cent. :)
  • Randy · 1 year ago
    OH and I love your story about the clothing store. One time a snoody person asked me what my terrific smelling cologne was and I said, "Right Guard Sport Cent."

    Thank goodness they laughed but when I assured them that this was indeed what they were smelling they were a little embarrassed.
  • Randy · 1 year ago
    Gotta love the Right Guard Sport Scent. :::passing the splenda::: Spoon? Snoodians must lead such stressful lives. I'm a musical snood and it definitely comes with it's stresses.

    I really appreciate the coffee on such a cold day. :::checking to see if toes are still there::: My poor car. It didn't want to start this morning and then I couldn't get the door open after work tonight.

    Was Ikea fun?

    :::sip:::

  • Eva · 1 year ago
    Oooh... that looks like my coffee grinder, but they did not have red as an option when I bought mine!
  • Randy · 1 year ago
    ::: spooning in Splenda ... takes another sizeable sip :::

    Ikea is always a blast for me. Keeps my eyes entertained and creativity engaged. They have great designs and it is affordable. The only thing is that after about an hour I am tired of being in the middle of the masses.

    Do they have Ikea where you live?

    If anyone else would like to join in the door is unlocked and another pot is brewing ... I would say the door is open but apparently it's cold for Cheryl.
  • Randy · 1 year ago
    It's a good one... I forgot the name brand but it is the same as the coffee maker. I have a lot of red in my kitchen.

    HI EVA! Great to see you here. :)
  • Cheryl Emery (Via Facebook) · 1 year ago
    It's ridiculous how little tolerance I have for the cold. Please don't keep the door closed on my account. I brought enough ginger snaps to feed an army. I hope you're feeling snappy, Randy. Perhaps our friends have encountered some difficult traffic.

    There is an Ikea 5 minutes from my home. What a labrynth of displays. If someone hadn't painted those arrows on the floor I'd be lost. The last time I was in Ikea I met a man who was blown away by how much cheaper Ikea was compared to other stores. There was something about hearing English expletives spoken in a thick Asian accent that struck me as particularly funny. He's likely a regular Ikea man now. Does Blaine usually go with you to Ikea?

    :::refilling coffee mug:::

    Would you pass the cream please?

    Is this a busy time of year for you?

  • Randy · 1 year ago
    ::: passing cream, opening front door but turning on the heated screen door ... snapping a ginger ::: mmmmm ... :::

    Yes, this is a very busy time of year for me. This January has been insane up until this week. It is still very busy though. I have only been to IKEA twice because it is on the complete other side of the city from me. Blaine has been with me once so I guess about half the time he goes :). I went with Mr. Chambers this time around.

    Maybe we should send some messages to friends who might join us. Someone needs to bring crumpets because I have never had a crumpet and imagine it to be delicious.

    ::letting myself in::

    hey guys,

    i hope the coffee's still hot, because it's COLD out there.

    i thought i'd drop in- i found some crumpets at this little bakery down the street, and i brought some homemade Finish sweetbread too.

  • Cheryl Emery (Via Facebook) · 1 year ago
    Oh Kate! So glad to see you. :::passing coffee::: Was the traffic difficult?

    Did your cousin fill you in on our round about connection in offline life? I guess I posted something Calgaryish on your wall. Your cousin saw it and sent me a message asking how I knew you and telling me that she had lived in Calgary. I replied that you and I had connected online through our mutual friend, Randy, but had never met in person. I noticed one of her names was the same as my dear friend's married name. I asked her if she was related to Colleen Hilman. It turns out she is. Cousins. I played the piano at Mark and Colleen's wedding. Apparently your Aunt was there. I've likely met your Aunt. Strange isn't it?

    :::sip:::

    Is work insane until the conference in the spring, Randy? Do you recover quickly from busyness?
  • Kate Petersen (Via Facebook) · 1 year ago
    Snap? Of course!

    Oh my goodness! That's great that you are related to my cousin. That would make you and I shirttail cousins!

    My cousins... so funny. I have a zillion of them.

    Do you happen to recall which aunt you may have met?

    Oh, why thank you Randy, I would like to put my feet up.

  • Randy Thomas (Via Facebook) · 1 year ago
    ::: pushing ottoman over :::

    You are welcome. I love the crumpet thingys. I don't know what recover from busyness means in that I am always insanely busy until my body just basically shuts down. :). So I guess that would be a no.

  • Cheryl Emery (Via Facebook) · 1 year ago
    :::passing snap:::

    Actually, my dear friend is related to your cousin. Although, I would consider her a sister. Her husband, your cousin's cousin, said he had a zillion cousins as well. I can't remember which Aunt it was. The wedding was several years ago.

    Cheryl... Yes, we have "sundogs" all the time during the rain season but they are usually running around more clouds. I have always called them Zephyrs for some reason. I have not seen Atonement or Bucket List. I have a mild interest in both :).

    Daniel, Sassy checked out the door and it is fine. The filters are behind the purified water on the third shelf in the pantry.

    Min! I was hoping you'd stop by too. I saw the movie last weekend. There's two quotes I like from the movie, one is funny. And one scene that I thought was profound. Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are great actors aren't they?

    As for the Superbowl, mmm...I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm going back and forth. I guess at this point, I'd like to see the Patriots make history. There's a good chance I won't even be around to watch it, but I'm ok with that.

    Saw they Bucket list Wednesday, I took my mother. We liked it ok and yes they are good actors and I think I know the profound scene your talking about Susan. The one were they are talking about God, and Morgan Freeman spoke some Truth :-) I didn't care for the GD word cropping up a couple times, seems it's a prerequisite for Hollywood movies

  • Susan Hundley (Via Facebook) · 1 year ago
    ::: tasting the Hazelnut coffee ::: Ummm, this is very good, thank you.

    Several of the Oklahoma gang and I crossed paths in Wichita in '06. Because of Laura Leigh's caring heart, she connected me with a LivingWaters here in Indiana. God bless your service to the Lord in the ass't leadership position, Daniel. That's wonderful.

    That's not the scene I'm referencing but it's a good one. Even though this movie has some bad language and some raunchiness to it, there's stuff about Truth in there too. Pretty cool for a Hollywood movie.

    The game was fun. Joe Buck cracks me up in his commercials. He's not afraid to look goofy with his sports coat and tie self.

    The maggots haven't deterred me from eating lately, Randy. Had a peanut butter cookie at Mary's Mountain Cookies in Breckenridge. Two peanut butter cookies around peanut butter icing. Yum. Here, bro have one. And my wife makes a mean chocolate chip cookie bar, but for the Super Bowl she used butterscotch instead of chocolate. If there were maggots in those they are some happy maggots.

    :::::announcing Sassy's surprise make-over to everyone in the room while touching the glass box thinking of two Strawberry/Banana smoothies, I retrieved them effortlessly and closed the window treatment on the patio door.::::

    (sorry to long)

    ::::::2 hours later::::: I emerged from the patio disheveled and covered in powder, spritz and fine Sasquatch hair.
    ....DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

    Sassy then strolls through the patio door entrance as if she was a Paris runway model:::right hand on hip, long legs crossing each other in that strutting gate and head held high::::she knows she looks HOT::::the crowd gasps out loud and stands to their feet in amazement:::Randy covers his mouth, a single tear running down his cheek:::::everyones eyes can believe what they're seeing......can it be ?.... on her head the retro 80's Tina Turner hair in platinum blonde with fushia tips rocking the house.....Sassy's full body platinum blonde color, cut in a show quality standard poodle cut really gives her a waist line, as well as, defines her legs and arms.....

    :::::she stops throwing her head over one shoulder giving Randy a pouty look::::::I screamed "work it girl" and then decided I'd had enough coffee and needed to eat some lunch.

    :::: whispering to Ben :::: the glass box over there on the coffee table gives more than stuff to consume, I found it gives temporary abilities too.

    :::::handing Cheryl a six inch foam neck brace for her cultural whiplash and reminding her to always wear her seatbelt around such distinctly diverse, but redeemed, ex-gay hairdressers, I grabbed the key's to the rented Harley chopper and invited Sassy to lunch::::::......She tells me about a five star place called the Blue Elephant on North Alafaya Trail......anyone else want to go?.....

    ::::::thinking how I must look like I just won a huge white stuffed animal with Fushia tips from Universal Studio and planted it behind me on the chopper, I looked in the rear view mirror and said....Sassy! are those Cheryl's sunglasses you have on?......::::::LOL and firing up the Harley::::::Sassy tells me about the unique Caribbean/Cuban food at the Blue Elephant::::::yelling up to the coffee clutch " sure no one wants me to bring them something back?"::::::::

    Thanks for the neck brace Daniel. I'd put it on but I'm killing myself laughing. I will remember the seatbelt suggestion. I had a seatbelt installed in my piano bench when I started accompanying singers.

    Count me in for the Blue Elephant. :::pulling out second pair of sunglasses:::
