Conservative Prude & Mr. 900

Started by Randy · 9 months ago

At the gym there is this older man, let’s call him Mr. 900. I want to call him that because he must travel at 900 mph and there isn’t any rhyme or reason to his workouts. I would say he is late 40’s early 50’s. Balding and two tone. He is tan as tan ... Continue reading »

  • "Pink" is a brand of clothing by Victoria's Secret. And: there's a Mr. 900 at my gym too. I once considered pretending I didn't speak English to avoid him. Headphones didn't even deter him. Good luck. :)
  • oh... well. These weren't sexy like most Victoria Secret stuff. They were baggy and dark grey.

hmmm. I like talking to people so... we will see what happens.
  • SOME people are so desperate for attention they'll bare their souls to the world.

SOME people had such poor upbringing they have no clue what a boundary is.

SOME people just look for a sympathetic ear.

SOME people are so annoying we'd do anything to avoid them.

I'm glad you didn't avoid him. Perhaps he needs Jesus, and although the VS branding is quite annoying (I've found that the pants don't rise high enough on the female's backside). Perhaps a random comment about God's love for Mr. 900 would cause him to break down publicly in a pool of Spirit led tears and repentance sparking revival (um, real revival) across Florida and up the coast and around the world......

Perhaps I'm just blinded by the glare from the ever-so-white legs.

    Blessings!
    ChaplainChas.

PS: Let us know if you interact w/Mr. 900 again!
  • Thanks Chas. I will.

  • Ah, yes, Look at My Butt Pants. Need I say more?
  • Nope ... that says it all.
  • LOL!!!! Who cares??? Mr. 900 sounds like he is taking synthetic energizers and his comment about respect falls on deaf ears. I respect a woman who tells it like it is. Don't you?
  • Well, I don't know that he's taking energizers and I did hear him. :)

But Mary, I like a woman who speaks through her heart, mind and mouth ... not butt branding from some major distributor making a buck by sexualizing/objectifying women.

    ::: grin :::
  • The gym is definitely a unique place to see an array of odd human behaviors. I see huge fat guys who just sit around talking, women with tats in odd places that seem to alert people to their eager attempt to appeal to the most base instincts of men, guys who spend an unduly amount of time staring at themselves in the mirror. Then there are the "screamers", guys who think they have to yell and curse while the bench pressing, as if they are trying to tell everyone, "HEY! Look at me!"

Personally, I tend to read a book while I am on the stationary bike, do my routine for the day (back & biceps, chest & triceps or shoulders & legs).

I'm there to work, not talk or put on a show.
  • I have tried working out with friends but I am much better with doing my own thing. BUT, I am an unabashed extrovert people watcher with occasional sinful tendencies to eves-drop :).

I love watching/engaging the spectacle of humanity around me. The weirder the better because I can relate :).

  • People watching is fun! And it sometimes inspires me to pray for them. Also, I am often confronted with my tendencies to judge, so I have opportunity to resist that tendency and make a deliberate effort to try to understand.
  • Hi Salty, good perspective and thank you for your comment.

  • It's okay to have a preference for how a woman speaks her mind - but just because she does it on her butt??? C'mon? I wouldn't walk around with something written on my arse either because I don't want others looking there and rather they looked me in the eye when they thought about what I had to say. However, is the judgment line really because it was her butt, or the brand, or the idea that perhaps she has no clue?

She, like many others in our culture (including christians) wear name brands because of the image surrounded by it. It's called idolatry. And I think the offensive part is that it is soooo common - not that it was on her butt, or that it was a manufacturing brand - but that it is soooo blatantly obvious that we hardly even notice any more until it is so outrageous. Hmmm. Remember Big Dog apparel?

Or maybe if we spoke to her - we might find out that her real shorts that she likes to wear were ruined by her room mate who then in turned let her wear this funky pair today and she would rather work out looking a little odd than not work out?

Did you ask her about her apparel choice - or just assume?
  • Mary, "come on", if you read my part in all of this I didn't say I lost respect for her. I just don't think anyone should brand their butt. I made no assumptions about her just communicated what Mr. 900 said.

Plus, for all you know the woman could be a shy introverted Christian who never speaks her mind and is being passive aggressive with her rebellion toward her parents. You can play the what if game all day. That isn't the point. I wasn't being judgmental of her but I am making a judgment that butt branding for Victoria Secret doesn't do anyone any favors ... especially women.
  • And furthermore... how do you get PINK printed on her "arse" as her speaking her mind?
  • The only branding I want to see, such as a tattoo, would be a brand that reminds me that I belong to Christ, as his bond servant. I certainly can't imagine ever wanting to see it there. He's written the law on our heart (Jeremiah 31:33) but that doesn't mean an external symbol of our covenant with God won't help us to remember to remain faithful, or inspire others to ask about the hope we've got.

  • I know a few characters from my gym who resemble Mr. 900. They can usually be found having obnoxiously loud conversations on borderline-inappropriate topics at times.

As for the butt-branding, I don't like it either. But did you ever hear Dane Cook's spiel about it? How his dad borrowed his sister's pants that said "Juicy" and he wore them backwards on Christmas morning? Good stuff...
  • Yeah... those kinda' guys are drawn to the gym I think. Dane Cook is a mess :). I saw his show on a plane to or from somewhere. I don't remember hearing that story.

  • [...] know how I was against all “butt branding?” In this one case (pictured) I make an exception. And I hate to break it to Mensley but Little Miss [...]
