Pleeeese.... can we just pray that she'll gradually lose steam? We're in an extreme drought here in the Carolinas and we've prayed and fasted for rain. : ) I'll lend you my cyber surfboard for the next several days if it will help! You should have been in the Charlotte area when hurricane Hugo swept through in 1989. I couldn't get to my condo for several days. No power for over a week [my wife's parents waited for 4 weeks for power]. Pray that we'll get rain on your end and we'll pray that you'll enjoy uninterrupted power on our end!!! : )

Yeah... I've been through three hurricanes but not ever separated from my house. I have been without power for several days ... several times. I pray you all will get rain soon.

I listened to the extended national weather forecast and update on Fay and it doesn't sound pretty... but we know the One Whom the winds and waves obey! Do you have a couple of lap-top batteries? I just pictured you hunkered down in a dark corner of a room with a flashlight shining down on you, donning an orange life preserver and you're typing furiously away to the sound of 100 mph winds! : ) I always get up fresh apples, bananas, raisins or other dried fruits and nuts. Peanut butter, cereal and instant dry milk and bottled water, canned sardines : ) or other canned meat like turkey or tuna. I hate to admit it, but If we're forecast to have inclement weather I'll iron a couple of shirts and pants (I hate wearing wrinkled clothes!). I started praying last night for you guys and we will continue to do so.

I like that visual. If I had a lifejacket I would try to reproduce the scene for video when/if the power goes off.

I have a bunch of tuna, peanut butter, raisins, water, batteries for my itty bitty TV ... stuff. No sardines though.

And dude, that is funny that you iron in advance "just in case." very funny.

Oh, I forgot to mention how much I like the artwork you uploaded with this post! I bought a good how-to-draw/paint book at Borders over the weekend. I haven't painted/drawn anything in over 20 years and I've been aching to make the time.
  • Randy · 1 year ago
Thank you. Do it... everyone with a yearning to draw should. I can't wait to see what you produce.

    Cute :) Thanks! (I think.)
I took some drugs so I'm emerging from a post-migraine haze. Glad Fay is still just a storm.
  • Randy · 1 year ago
Yikes. I had a migraine last Tuesday. Do you get that post-migraine euphoria? It's not as fun as the feeling of a post brain freeze but it's still pretty calming. They say Fay is probably going to be a cat 1 by landfall. I bet you all are getting a ton of rain right now.

P.S. -- Love the part about my mom.

I think I'm glad we only have earthquakes in Cali. They're short, and for the most part you can prepare for them (even if you don't know when they're coming).
  • Randy · 1 year ago
Well, and I know this is just personal preference but ... I would rather be blown across land than swallowed up in it. :)
  • B.T.Carolus · 1 year ago
You don't get swallowed up in land if there's an earthquake. Maybe if you were a total idiot and built your house right on top of a fault. But nobody does that.

And hey, we don't have to spend days preparing for earthquakes, hours living through them, and then days cleaning up after them...year after year.
  • Randy · 1 year ago
Actually, I just remembered our issues with sink holes. they just open up randomly and swallow cars, horses, houses ... stuff. Yeah... you probably got the better deal.

Is that a hurricane thing, or a reclaimed swampland thing?
  • Randy · 1 year ago
It's a living on a peninsula of sand and soft stone thing.

Will be praying for you, Randy. Thanks for posting an early art piece. It's interesting to see how a person's art changes over time. I like this one.

    Thanks!
