ETC: Everyday Thoughts Collected: Fred Phelps ’ god Hates Me

  • Dan Gonzales · 3 years ago
At first I thought that might be a reference to
    http://www.godhatesfigs.com/
which is a pretty amusing site.
  • carl · 3 years ago
He preaches a false gospel and if anyone needs to repent it is he and his demon oppressed family.
    Well said.
btw, what filter do you use?

Amanda The Lord is amazing... I am just silly. :) I don't know if they will repent but I do know the Lord's heart and He would want them too.
Dan ::: shaking my head ::: I think your friend makes light of a very important teaching. Humorous? I will admit... a little bit. But I find it more distracting from a great opportunity to teach than humorous.
Carl, you know, I don't even know. I have like four different things running on my computer to protect it from spyware, hacks, virus, fishing (sp?) and all kinds of crud. It just won't let me go to some sites. I rarely notice it except it won't let me at the Phelps site nor some legitimate "gay" centric news sources.

I don't think they pretend to dress up their hatred.
Fred has pretty much stated that in public.
  • Amanda · 3 years ago
Curiosity got the better of me, so I had to go look. They didn't say anything about you, just a link to your post in their "News" section.
You continue to amaze me each day. Thank you for praying for these false prophets. They can still repent and come to know Jesus Christ. The question is, will they?

Randy that's horrible. If I had been there I would have cleaned your shoes.

I went to their site for about a second. Then I realized that if someone saw their site on my computer it would have the same effect on my career as if I were surfing porn.
And that's not a joke--just seeing the title, just seeing the content, on a work computer could be enough to get me in serious trouble. I can't imagine that this site that purports to be speaking God's word could possibly justify couching their message in terms and hatefulness so vile that I feel dirty just looking at it.
Of course, to be honest, the message is so vile that there is no other way to dress it up.

Sometimes people like this just need to be ridiculed. Here's a video of an Australian comedian pretending to be a reporter who's coming on to the Phelps'. I think it's hysterical.

I know Amanda. It's probably the Holy Spirit saying "no."
That's my guess. I have the same feeling.
  • Amanda · 3 years ago
It's quite funny...but I have this nagging feeling that I shouldn't think it's funny, you know?
  • Wild Bill · 3 years ago
Thanks for the link to the God Loves Comedian post on my site. I have received a few emails from the Westboro Church people. These people have lost their minds, if they ever had any to begin with.

I happened to be watching "Hannity & Colmes" last night when Fred Phelps came up. Apparently some of the military families have filed suit against their protests at funerals (and rightly so), and the Phelpses have turned to the ACLU, who are ironically defending them. You have to hand it to the ACLU; they really don't pick sides.
And on another note, grateful though I am that both the conservative and liberal media are renouncing the Phelpses, I have to wonder if the conservatives would be this up-in-arms if the Phelpses were just protesting gay activists' funerals like they used to, instead of military funerals. Just a thought.
(BTW, sorry for no intro. I'm an 18 yr. old from NC who's dealing with unwanted SSA. I mostly comment at Willful Grace, but you're cool too, Randy!)

Fred Phelps is disgusting. I read on Christian Connect- http://www.ChristianConnect.com , that he protested Matthew Shepard's funeral. How sick to claim the gospel and not to know it.
  • BKater, Oceanskater · 3 years ago
OK, that video was hilarious! The Westboro Baptist folks have no sense of humor.
And why do they use the a** word all the time? I hate that word.

The only good thing about Phelps--and it really isn't about him--is that his place in the world is so small. He gets press, he has a handful of deluded and confused followers, and he most certainly has the ego of someone with far more influence. The truth is, though, that his "flock" is small and his reach is less about the policies that he preaches and more about the people that he irritates.
I'm comfortable with the thought that there aren't many people (Christian or otherwise) who agree with his view of the world.
And it's nice to be coming by again, Randy. I've been busy with life and let the reading and writing suffer; I'm trying to get back into the swing of things.

BKater I am so sorry to hear that they did that but I ... again ... am not surprised. They are like elementary schoolyard bullies with law degrees and demon oppression.
Zombyboy I agree, his influence is truly very small. I was surprised at how little traffic came here from his site. I would have thought that the "car wreck" affect of people being entertained by tragedy would have brought him a heck of a lot more attention. Apparently not. I get more traffic from some of my friends blogs than came from his website.
Again, Z, it's good to see you. I will be visiting your great blog on a more regular basis now that you are back in the swing of things.
Christian Connect Yes I was aware he did that. In fact I did an interview in a MAJOR market on a talk show and it was about Matthew and the subject of Fred's terrible antics came up. I let him have it on the radio. The interview was supposed to only be 15 minutes, I ended up staying on the show for the full three hours. They played the clip of me calling him a false prophet full of a viper's venom for days after that.
I think it is important to remember that the Lord would have the Phelps' repent if they would choose to do so. At the same time He is the one who set the precedent of publicly denouncing legalistic religiously harsh people who claim to know Him but obviously do not.
