Thank you for sharing this story... it is a beautiful picture of how precious each of us is to God our Father.

Thank you for this, Randy. Last night was long, and we didn't make it to church this morning as a result (Scott blogged it at Grumpy Teacher). This post, though, was more uplifting and quieting than church has been for a long, long time, for me, and I appreciate the gift of it very much.

I am glad this post was a blessing.

Cindy, I saw that over at GT's blog. So sorry to hear about your late night! I am glad this post ministered to you. It was a joy to write.

Read Henri Nouwen's classic In The Name Of Jesus. It is as profound a piece of spiritual teaching as there is.
In it, Nouwen discusses how the community of mentally handicapped among whom he lived, taught him so much about the love of Jesus and the primacy of being authentic and focused on God's love.
It's a thin book and available at Amazon. I won't let anyone borrow mine because it has touched me that much.

Thanks PDub! I have read several of Nouwen's books but not that one. I will add it to my Amazon wishlist :)

I was moved by this writing. I want to see ALL of the ones mentioned be truly one in community. Thank you.

Worshipping in Miami on the 19th, we were at a church with a ministry to the handicapped - they took up a secton of about 10 pews next to me. They sang with great enthusiasm & joy, & when one of the worship leaders asked us to join hands & sing, my hand was taken from across the eisle before I could blink twice. It was great to see how some of them would sprint to visit with good friends in the congregation & vice-versa during a greeting time, too. Very good to see shared love in the Body of Christ!

That's a wonderful story DM. I love the feeling of innocence that accompanies the image of someone unabashadly and without reservation taking your hand to pray. Cool.
