"GLBTQXYZ" I've been thinking about writing an article for the Onion about that. It's probably already been done, though.
I don't know. Lieberman? I saw this post while in the Atlanta airport and cried all the way through to my destination. Just kidding. I understand your reasoning but I don't know that I need Lieberman's help former to vote for McCain. Unlike some "evangelicals" I am quite ok with voting for McCain over the Democrat candidate for three reasons: 1) The War on Terror 2) Pro-Life and 3) Promised to appoint conservative judges.
I voted my conscious and that guy didn't win. We have to work with what we got.
I worry that Lieberman is too much like McCain in one respect ... boring. I know that sounds shallow but along with "thoughtfulness" we need statesmanship, inspiration someone who compels us.
McCain? Lieberman?
For you policy wonk types (meant as an absolute compliment because I am so jealous of your brain power) that might be a dream come true. For myself, I know they are MUCH better on a wider array of issues but I don't think they compel the country to unite.
Plus, their extensive track records haven't proven they could even come close to pulling it off. In McCain's case it could be argued the opposite.
And for those of you who are Democrats and outraged by Paul... contact him ...not me :).
Both McCain and Lieberman are heavy supporters of a war that 65% of the country wants us out of within the next year.
Do you really think it would be wise for the GOP to put them on the ticket together?
::: back to Paul :::
Condi brings plenty to McCain. She would attract the independent black and Independent women vote that would other wise vote for Obama. She too brings in the Pro-Israel voters and the people who care enough about foreign policy. Rice would be great for the Republican Party. It would show cynics that the Republican Party has something besides older white men to offer.
We already have one Independent on the Republican ticket. Why do we need two?
All I know is I'm not ready to turn in my Ultra-Conservative Party Membership Card.
Thanks for clarifying that a McCain/Lieberman ticket would work on Ds the same way a Hillary/anybody ticket would work on Rs. I think your argument is valid if the war is your #1 issue for this election. I know that there are a lot of people who see the war as their top issue. I also know, however, that even among those who see the war as their top issue, their choice of presidential candidates is split. A lot of people care about the war but believe that a Republican president, and in particular, John McCain, will do a better job than any Democrat.
Regarding the wisdom of the GOP, that is a blog post in and of itself. I think McCain gave the GOP the Heiseman a number of years ago, so it is McCain's call to a degree. Remember, VPs are customarily but not automatically the nominee's pick. A whole balloting of electors exist and they may have a real problem electing an Independent as a VP candidate. So the practicality of how Lieberman gets on the ticket is more intriguing to me that your comment about the war.
And frankly, I think most Dems will be incredibly disappointed with the action on the war IF a Dem gets elected to the White House. Their is just too much information that the new Commander In Chief will be briefed on that can alter their pre-election perspectives.
