ETC: Everyday Thoughts Collected: In DC and “Radicals” Invade FRC

  • Scott · 4 years ago
How far does the FRC think they can push people before they react?

I've monitored their activities and statements for about 7 years now. I've seen fierce rhetoric from Gary Bauer, Janet Parshal, Ken Conner and now Tony Perkins.

The twisting of facts for political gain, the blatent lies. The taunting and gloating over various "victories" for their cause.

All in the name of Jesus.

I'm truly surprised that this hasn't happened to the FRC sooner. Eventually people get tired of being legislative punching bags.

It was evidenced in Boston a week ago and repeated in Washington DC.

The gay community is getting tired.

    "...chanting anti-abstinence slogans..."

    Very sad.
  • Scott · 4 years ago
I think "chanting anti-abstinence slogans" is only half the story.

It's irresponsible to think that abstinence only education is going to stop teenagers from having sex.

In a dream world maybe but in this world it's irresponsible to stick your head in the sand and believe that a teenager is going to listen to a teacher tell them "never ever ever do that until you're married".

The FRC is advocating an irresponsible course of action.

The Vatican also has advocated abstinence education and forbids condom use.

It's done a heck of a job in Africa.

It's like a parent having a loaded gun in the house, telling the kids where it is, and then telling them to never ever touch it.

Its far better to train the kid how to handle the gun safely and tell them why they should never touch it.

Charles King, 50, is the extremist who attacked FRC yesterday.

He is using federal dollars to protest, and to attack
    Pro family groups!

He should be investigated, and funds that were used to
attack FRC should be given back!

His partner Keith Cylair recently passed away at 45 of HIV.

Charles King is a bitter man with alot of rage!

He runs New York City’s venerable AIDS service organization Housing Works.

He also is the man who is leading the charge to lead protest

against the Family Research Counsil and other groups!

http://www.housingworks.org/home_c2ea.html is funded also by Tax Payers and the federal Goverment!

"Is the Goverment paying for this person to attack Pro Famiy Groups"?

This link show's his past attacks on Republicans and pro family groups!

I broke up some of the words with an * because of spambots.

Hi Jose! Thanks for the linkage, I am running to a dinner meeting and will check them out later. If anyone is so inclined to follow those links and report back...please feel free.

    Scott,

I'm working, actually, to have the city where I live (Bentonville, AR) become a sister city to Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). I've also traveled to Nigeria and have studied a lot about the sub-saharan portion of that continent, though I'm by no means a scholar.

From what I can gather conservative (by today's standards) messages such as that of abstinence do not play poorly. In practice they may not work ideally...remember, in places like the DRC the native lingua franca for "animals" also translates into the word for "meat". You're talking impoverished nations, many of whom have been ruled by thugs, where the vast majority of the populace must eke out survival any way possible. Sadly, there are a lot of women who live on the "prostitution trails" because that is a livelihood (if one can call it that) for them. And if you're not entrusting your life to God (Catholic church or no) it's likely you're going to try and survive any way you see fit.

I agree that "abstinence only" isn't the whole story, though. Here in northwest Arkansas, there were several sex education books recently up for review in local school libraries. What scares me is that, based on the content I've seen, many of these books seem to be ENCOURAGING teenagers to have sex.

    Why would this be so?
  • Scott · 4 years ago
Typing too fast here Center = Council but you still get the point.

Randy, years ago you wrote a very pointed letter to Coral Ridge regarding rhetoric against the gay community.

Its been mysteriously scrubbed from the web (but can still be found if you look hard enough).

I really think its time you edit the letter and send it off to some of your benefactors.
  • Randy · 4 years ago
I listed 2003 as the year of reference because 2004's 990's have not been made available through the service I used to find this information. Right now, in 2004 and 2005, I think we are still at the comparative fractional equivalent listed above. Maybe less.
  • DL Foster · 4 years ago
    Randy,
thanks for that clarification on "the letter". I had heard some rumblings about it and wondered if you indeed had perhaps recanted its intensity although I agree with its premise.

Re the protest: I think that disturbing a company's personal work space like that is childish and immature. I dont think activists wearing full body condoms will have any credibility other than to be seen as a sideshow.

If they were really concerned about the encroachment of AIDS, they would be preaching and practicing the restraint necessary to stem the tide of AIDS. Especially when their community is still the most affected.

Oh, and dude, this new blog rocks big time!
  • Randy · 4 years ago
DL Dude, thanks for the props on the blog. I am so grateful for tech wench designing it and making it available for public use.

Thanks also for posting your viewpoints as well.

We have and will. I also want to do that for the right reasons as well.

when is the gay activist community going to write to PFLAG, the APA and the HRC holding them accountable for denying my religious liberties as another free expression, denying my personhood, self-determination and existence?

That would be good actually. Exodus/Focus often make claims about religious liberties in general but specific to exgays I don't feel like the Exodus has taken the time to lay it all out in one place. If you've got evidence to share with pro-gay organizations, I say by all means Exodus should compile put something out.

This arragance is reminicent of Sodom and Gomarrah, is it not?

Genesis 19:9-11 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

But let us not be overcome with evil but overcome evil with good. Our God reigns!

    Hi Randy,

I feel like I've jumped into a heated debate, and I don't plan on getting in the middle. I was a bit confused by something you said, though. Daniel quoted it above, "when is the gay activist community going to write to PFLAG, the APA and the HRC holding them accountable for denying my religious liberties as another free expression, denying my personhood, self-determination and existence?"

I'm confused as to how these groups are denying your religious liberties. I think I follow the point about denying your personhoond, etc. (meaning they deny that someone can be ex-gay), but how are they denying your religious liberties.

Honestly, just curious, not trying to stir up the pot.
  • Randy · 4 years ago
Zane are you saying that the arrogance behind the activists protesting a worldview by invading private property is the same as the arrogance of group of same sex attracted men intent on rape? I don't see the goals of the protestors as the same as those in Sodom so it would help if you clarified your point.

Brady...be honest...you like stirring up the pot. I've seen you 'round the sphere.

And it would be helpful to keep context. I said "my religious liberties as another free expression." I did not say that they are presently denying my religious liberties.

All three communicate that my faith as a self-determining factor in my life is not just wrong but a personal affront to them and all people with ssa. They overtly and indirectly communicate that "ex-gays" shouldn't be allowed public dialog, promotion and should be treated with disdain and unethical.

The APA goes so far as to threaten punishment (declared unethical and hurtful) of their members if they help people like myself to self determine that our faith is more important than sexual identity and expression. They mock that my faith can help me overcome homosexuality. PFLAG members have approached me on several occasions (including Boston) and literally said that my "faith" is religious terrorism and murder... that I deserve to be "shut down."

Instead of simply disagreeing and denying my existence, all three are working to curtail the free expression of my faith by demonizing my religious convictions and with threats of outlawing it in private organizational and public policy if possible. I am writing a larger report on this issue and not going to get into it any further on a comment thread. When it's available...you will know.

And when it comes to this blog "pot" I own the stick* that stirs it. Don't worry about saying anything because I will see it whether it ends up on this thread or not.

Ok, good to hear *mind is now at ease*
  • Randy · 4 years ago
Oh you were clear Mr. Brady, I was picking on you. I should have put ::: playful jab ::: in there. Glad my response was helpful.
  • Brady · 4 years ago
Randy, come on, I was really being honest that I was not trying to stir up the pot. Maybe I should have been more clear that I was not trying to stir up the pot in this specific post, but I was honestly asking a question with no alterior motives. If you have seen me around the sphere, you will see that I don't ALWAYS stir up the pot. The last several months of commenting on your blog have been regular conversation and well-wishes, would you not agree?

As for your answer, much appreciated. I was not trying to take it out of context, just looking for clarification for my own understanding, and you did that.

    See, pot not stirred...
