ETC: Everyday Thoughts Collected: On Drivetime with Bill Bunkley Concerning Gay Marriage Protests

    The evil marshmallow?

So, what do you suggest I do with a man by the name of Rev. Phelps who will be leading a protest in Vancouver, BC Nov. 28th?

Losing my "rights" then to be a stumbling block for someone to come to know Christ... that a good one. Especially in a world where most people are fighting for their "rights"...

Let me quote you and then ask....

"I would rather lose the culture war then have to stand in front of the creator and know that I grieved Him by being driven by unrighteous anger and only focusin on the now and the next public policy battle"

What if Obama "vito's" Prop 8 that's in effect in some States?

I had dinner with a friend of mine/co-worker along with his partner in a kinda gay pub a couple of nights ago. I always have dinner in pubs and not afraid of having dinner inside a pub where the majority of the patrons might be gay and in a part of town litterally called, "Prideville" although there's a very mixed crowd in that area.... just painting a picture as to the environment I was in.

We talked about Prop. 8 and a Protest that a gay activist group is preparing to protest Rev. Phelps who's coming to protest against The Laramy Project. A boy beatened and burned to death for being gay.

I sat there and listened to my friend and his partner share their thoughts and feelings about the whole thing.

I have a facebook account under my real name. And it was my blog note on facebook that opened up this conversation I had with my friend and his partner.

On my facebook account I blogged a note about Rev. Phelps and my response to his protest with signs that read, "God Hates Fags" and "Turn or Burn"

I just don't see how that's affective to reaching out to the GLBT Community.

And what's frustrating is that because the church's in my city are in slumber mode this Rev. Phelps character along with his militant Baptist group will unfortunatly to the hundreds of people within the GLBT Community, if not thousands across the Lower Mainland be representing Jesus and the church.

I'm challenged to extend the same grace to Rev Phelps as I would to anyone who has "missed the mark" He's definately missed the mark in his response.

Something good might come of it because it presented an opportunity for me to share the gospel truth with my friend and his partner inside a gay pub although a very mixed crowd... in "Prideville" area of Vancouver. ...

I'm a seed planter and pray over the harvest.
I love the Prophetic, "T"ruth speaking testify of Jesus which is prophesy.
I love making known God's extravigent love that was expressed when Christ died.
I love the riches of God's grace, tolerance, and kindness that leads to repentance.

I'm grieved when people don't see the riches of God's grace, tolerance, and kindness.

If Phelps protests in Canada can he be arrested? Not that I normally support violations of free speech rights by foreign governments, but for Phelps, I might make an exception.

I tried talking to Phelps in Lynchburg Virginia. I would highly encourage you to not bat an eye and walk on by. They feed off of attention and it is futile to try to reason with them.

Obama can't veto state legislation. He can only veto federal legislation. The only thing he could do to overturn California's Prop 8 is issue an Executive order (which would be a violation of that responsibility and would cause a revolt in the states even worse than what you have seen so far ... politically speaking.) Or he could appoint liberal Justices who would overturn prop 8 if it rises through the federal court system (possible but unlikely.) OR he could sign legislation legalizing gay marriage on a federal level for all the states. That would also be a big mess politically because marriage has always remained under the purview of the individual states. It's not impossible and I would like to see a Federal Marriage Amendment. It's possible that the opposite of what I want to see on a federal level could occur, under the Obama administration, but not probable at this point and time.

    Oh, and one more thing...

I'm pretty open and honest with my gay friends about my background and testimony. And so they know my position.
