ETC: Everyday Thoughts Collected: Silencing Dissent? Are you kidding?

Yeah GT, those Relions are horrid censors :). I agree about civil disagreement being a lost art.
Brady, I don't know about profile and status and all that but I appreciate your understanding of my schedule and stewardship of it.
    You are welcome ;-)

Randy, thanks for posting my comment ;-)
And good point about opposing views being heard by you.
I also realize it's easier for me to allow posts and respond to (nearly) all of them given my much smaller traffic and less high-profile status on my blog, so I'm sure that certainly weighs in for you too as you moderate, post, and respond to comments in your blog.

Alas, Randy, the tendency seems to be everywhere. Accusations of censorship are made almost any time two people disagree about anything with serious emotional effects: SSA, politics, relion, anything. I fear that we have lost the ability to disagree gently with each other.

You're 100% right, Randy! Not only is the pro-homosexual viewpoint expressed and magnified freely throughout our culture, but it's hard to find mediums in which it is even challenged. And when it IS challenged, the usual response is to label the dissenter with "bigot," "homophobe" or "nazi".
The nazi insinuations are just starting to make me laugh, now. I was emailed one yesterday. It was funny how the sender told ME to do the research in order to backup HIS accusation. I don't think he bothered to do it himself.

I know, it's terrible how the polarization has caused some people to not even want to try to engage in dialog. It's escalates so badly so quickly. It's as if people don't want to take the time to get to know a person and only engage in conversation for a public showdown for whatever reason.

About the Nazi insinuations, I don't think it is funny because it reveals a complete lack of knowledge regarding what the Nazis really did. The only people in this world who could possibly compare to the global influence the Nazi's had are the Islamofascists.

    Randy,

I agree with you that your blog (or any blog for that matter) is yours alone, and you can let in comments as you please. I can also see how it gets frustrating for someone to want to offer an opposing view and have it not heard, but you are right, it's not your job to offer that soapbox.

Hi Mike, I'd like to respond to your comment. While I agree that there are certainly many pro-gay messages throughout our society, I still see it challenged quite often. The legislatures of somewhere around 30 states have changed or are seeking to change their Constitutions to make gay marriage illegal. Many are writing laws to outlaw adoptions by any gay person, etc. etc.

So, while there is certainly plenty of gay positive voice in our society it is still challenged in several mediums out there.

Brady, with regard to your comments to me you say ...

That's the thing, they are heard. I read every comment. Just because they don't get a response, or the response they want ... does not mean they were not heard. Thank you for your understanding.

I guess that's true at least as far as politics, Brady. *hat tip*
