She might be dead but I see her everywhere …
Last fall I bought my first home. The structure itself isn’t very old but the lady who owned it before me was quite elderly. Her name was Dot and she is dead.
I hate to be so blunt but I never met her. I [...] ... Continue reading »

  • This post amused me greatly, Randy. Sometimes we are so alike, and sometimes we are SOOOOO very different; it makes me laugh. I pull my dryer out from the wall to clean under it occasionally, usually in the fall or spring when the mice start coming in and the utility room begins to take on a certain "air" if it isn't done and poison or traps set. :p

I can't say that dead animals phase me much, though, and certainly not dried up husks of animals. Our cats leave us gifts on the porch daily. Half-eaten gifts. They leave us the "green wobbly bits" as the girls call them, and we have to sweep those and the bloody fur off the step almost every morning. (One Easter we opened the door to find a full-grown rabbit waiting for us, which amused us all greatly and gave the girls opportunity to tell their classmates that our cats killed the Easter bunny.) Dried critter husks are much tidier to clean up than oozy ones. :)

You didn't want to know any of this, did you?

What a great dryer salesman! Blessings on his head, for sure, and blessings on your now carcass-free home!

    Cindy

P.S. Dot is my mother's name. Maybe being a "gem" to one's neighbors goes with the name...

  • You are a very good writer and great story teller! You remind me of my Uncle in a cool, younger hip sort of way. :) He's a great story teller. I've appreciated how story-teller's like yourself can take a simple 'I got a new washer/dryer delivered today' and turn it into a full blown adventure, er, misadventure. Congratulations on the new washer and dryer.
  • Thank you Susan. You are a great encouragement to me.
  • For some reason your comment got caught in the spam filter. I am so glad to have found this comment and retrieved it. You are very encouraging.

Our Siberian Husky, Wolfie, growing up would bring us presents quite frequently. I will never forget sitting on the porch watching him lumber out of the woods with a huge brown thing in his mouth and blood *everywhere.* It was huge and he kept dropping dragging it all the way up the hill to the house.

It was a full grown, fat, beaver. He brought it right up to the porch, dropped it and with wagging tail almost verbalized, "I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Aren't you proud of me!?"

When he brought home a cat we had to start tying him up :(. The story of the cat killing the Easter Bunny is actually kind of funny though. I love family pet stories.

I had a Great Aunt Dot. She was well loved too.

  • Hmmmm, dinner on the table by 6 six sounds pretty good. I felt like I was right there on your adventure with you.
  • Good, I hope that it is that descriptive and worth reading.
  • I needed a "funnest" story today! Thanks.

  • When I was a kid, my hamster got out of its cage and we couldn't find it anywhere. Then it died behind one of the walls. And it was bad! You are right to assume that Dot did not have a nose. :)

Great story, Randy! So well written.
  • I knew I wasn't alone in my estimation of dead mammals :). Thanks for your encouragement.

  • Ha! Your dog and beaver story makes me laugh! And cringe. :p What IS it about dogs and dead animals?! (Odd, but I just posted a similar story on QL before I came here and saw your reply. Must be the twin thing goin' again.)

The spam filter must not like me. I posted a comment a few minutes ago that may have gotten caught, too. Hmmmmm....

  • Yes, I explained on your other comment that Akismet isn't liking something about you lately. It's not me cause I love my evil twin! I am trying to figure out what is snagging you.

Glad you liked the dog story. I will read your carcass story later today. :)
