I tried this threaded comment idea a long time ago and it was yuck.  Now they have a new plugin so help me test it to see if it’s still yuck.
Talk about whatever you want but this “open thread” is to test the threaded comments feature to see if we want to ... Continue reading »

  • wow...what a neat thing to try.
  • Let's hope it doesn't blow up something.
  • eh... so far so good ...
  • oh ... wow...lookit the color scheme.
  • What if someone leaves a second comment branch?
  • ok... I think this makes me happy but will work on the color scheme if possible.
  • but what about to people responding to a comment within a comment?
  • this really kind of rocks.
  • a sixth layer?
  • I'll try it
  • A second comment on the same comment...?
  • It looks nice
  • I think we hit the max depth on this one. :) Thanks for playing.
  • actually a second comment thread on the same post thread. It's like a tree and This was the second branch. It worked :).
  • Do you like the colors? The orange and lime worry me.
  • oh and ... thanks :)
  • I know I can count on God, death, taxes, and Randy changing his blog;) It's a great addition! Subtle, yet effective.
  • Cut me some slack man ;). At least nowadays it's isn't complete overhauls of the blog and just tweaks :).

with the linear view of comments before, it was so easy for two people to run a thread. My hope is that this will better facilitate conversations within threads.

    does that make any sense?
  • I fully support! And I hadn't even thought about the benefit of opening up the comment thread to multiple, simultaneous conversations, I'm sure that will come in handy.
  • Overall, I really like it. I notice no time stamp on the replies. Just an observation. The different colors helps separate out the different layers. If I'm tracking right, my comment should have the lime green border. :-) Okay, here we go... 'Submit'.
  • testing another something.
  • Well, you were lime :). Now you are #457AA6 (deeper shade of blue.) The lime and the orange were freakin' me out. I am working on the time stamp.
  • we shall see :)
  • I think it works. It's a good addition
  • The text box starts running into the column shortly after the first few layers. It's not a big deal.
  • OK, I too want a time stamp. Plus, we can't edit comments made on comments (noticed an egregious error I made after posting, but alas, it will remain enscribed there forever).
  • Ok... I think I can fix the time stamp. The ajax editing (what you had before) kind of worries me. I will turn it back on but if the blog blows up I will make a mean face in your general direction until Jesus makes me repent.
  • Ellie, I got the time stamp to work but it doesn't link to is comment permalink like the first layered comment. I hope that suffices. I also turned on the editing plugin. Let me know how it works.
  • Comment editing and timestamping. Yay!

ETA How could the blog possibly blow up when it will have such excellent grammar now that we can all proofread our comments after posting?
  • Your fun. I am glad you are Yay'ing :) So far so good and no blog blow ups.

but for some reason I am not sure my grammar will get any better :).
  • Yay, to time stamps! Good job, Randissimo!
  • Thanks Susan!
  • I took off the threaded comments because they started screwing with the blog templates :(
  • testing
  • Oh darn I just saw this now. I wanted to try threaded comments in my site
  • that's ok Cris. Other than one little template design glitch (not the plugin's fault) I love the plugin. Very easy to install.
