Why I Read Gay Blogs

Started by Randy · 7 months ago

A couple of weeks ago I got a very nasty, and bullying, email accusing me of sin for participating in the comments section on “pornographic” and “blasphemous” gay blog. There was also something about me cussing and publishing porn on my own blog %2 ... Continue reading »

  • I'm sorry you feel you have to explain yourself to some folks. I appreciate your integrity, though, in doing so.

You know that idea, "some may, some may not"? For some, for you, for instance, as you said a 40 year old man, 16 years out of homosexuality, with plenty of online accountability, reading gay blogs is not a sin. I trust you when you say that you are not sinning.

For me, it would be a sin because I am still in a place, when I have 'lonely days', for instance, where I can be easity swayed to consider the 'community' in the old identity. So, at this point in my life I don't read gay blogs or websites. When I mature some, I may be able to, and hope that I have the wisdom that you do to read them with accountability.

Also, for you, considering what you do for a living, it would make sense that reading those blogs may be a benefit to you. Like for me, reading pro-choice, pro-euthanasia sites can be a benefit for me, as one attempting to advoace for life (sloppily as I do, though, it is a passion). However, I don't think I'm sinning when I look at these sites. Well, not just by looking at them anyway. Maybe in my response to some of the things they are saying, sometimes. ;)

Anyway, I see you as a man after God's own heart and a man of integrety. I trust ya. :)
  • I completely agree. Everyone has to consider their own walk and do what is best. That doesn't mean it won't change over time but it also means at some point I may not need to read those blogs in the future.

Thanks Julie. I appreciate your comment and compliment.
  • I haven't ever heard that asinine might be a cuss word.

And as for the following gay blogs thing--I agree with Julie, I kind of feel like your career would almost require you to keep updated on what the gay side of the aisle is saying, thinking.
  • Thanks for the understanding Brady.

Why is your picture still a grey emotionless icon : ) ?
  • I know, Brady, we need some sort of visual symbol of you!
  • Guys, I'm much too lazy to be posting pictures! I'll make it my goal within the next week or so, though--I feel like the only grey icon left!
  • did Charlie Brown's teacher just say something? It's sounded like "Whaw Whaw Whaw ... whaw whaw whaw whaw."

    Hurry Brady.
  • Tah Dah! (I really never liked Charlie Brown's teacher's voice...problem solved).
  • well... lookityou. Welcome to the "profiles with pictures" club!
  • Done and done...
  • I'm glad to put a face to the name finally. (Which reminds me, I've got to update this one sometime in the next few weeks)
  • Thanks, Jonathan! I was thinking of mixing up the pictures from time to time too. We'll see if I actually get around to doing it, though...
  • Hey Brady nice picture, you're quite handsome (and I'm probably stepping on somebody's toes as I say that).

Next assignment: go find one of your pre-disqus posts and claim your comments.
  • Aww, thanks, BT! And don't worry, no stepping on toes, everyone likes to be told they're attractive :-)

Now, as for claiming old comments...you do remember it took me 2 weeks to even get a picture, right? Lol. I'll work on it, but no telling how long that could take...

  • How do ad blockers work?

I don't want to ponder Hillary as a Lesbian (or as Secretary of State, for that matter).

You use stronger language than me...but I don't remember any cussing. Plus, I've said asinine in front of my dad (who would probably kill me if I ever cussed in front of him) and he has not batted an eyelash. It means donkey-like, the same way bovine means cow-like, and feline means cat-like.

If we're thinking of the same caliber of gay blogs, then if that's considered porn, you'd better never walk by some guy mowing his lawn with his shirt off, or into the underwear section of Macy's, or go to the beach, ever again. You got that Randy, no new underwear, unless your mom buys it for you and takes it out of the packaging before you see it!

  • You use firefox and it is one of the add on tools.

I think we are on the same page Ellie. I don't need my Mom to buy me clothes.
  • I really don't understand accusations like that. I've never seen anything even remotely close to porn or cussing on your blog. It's obviously a design from our accuser before the Lord. I know it isn't fun, and not something I'd ever ask for, but it is a compliment that the devil works hard to discredit you. And, what an opportunity to draw closer to our Lord Jesus.

  • Very good perspectives to remember. To be fair, the blogger and his normal commenters were awful toward this fellow. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he read more into my comment than was actually there.

Still doesn't excuse his reaction but ... there it is.
  • [Sorry about the emotionless grey emoticon]

Along with the others, I affirm and confirm that the Holy Spirit is a great guide, and I have full assurance in your attentiveness to His leading.

Glad you're thinking about it. Keep up the great work.

    Blessings!

  • Thank you Chas. Now... do something about that emotionless grey icon.
  • I read gay blogs occasionally and I have been asked the same questions. Thanks for blogging on this. I also, as I'm sure many have seen, have a LGBT section on my own blog. I have a lot of LGBT readers locally, thus I use this area to comment on things that are happening in their life and filter it through the Christan world-view. It seems to work. ~ Amy

  • Good for you Amy. Glad you are out there speaking to the redemptive side of things.
